Life’s a funny thing. You never really know how things are going to work out. And if you’re a control freak like me with a plan with a plan for everything, that doesn’t go down too well.
Almost a year to the day I was on the verge of a quarter life crisis. I hated my job, didn’t know what I wanted to do and was about to pack my bags and go teach English in Thailand.
Anyone who knows me will appreciate how ridiculous an idea that is. So looking back to where I was a year ago and where I am now, all I can do is smile. My experience has taught me that people and things come into our lives as and when we need them. And timing is everything.
So yeah, my plan didn’t work out, and I did go off on a tangent but where I landed up is way for exciting and fulfilling than I ever imagined possible.
Some people come into our lives to make it better, some make it worse. My biggest, and possibly hardest lesson has been to ditch the suckers that pull you down and surround yourself by people and space that raise you up! And I’m not talking about any kind of spiritual enlightenment or hectic path of self-discovery. It’s really all about making choices. You can chose to suggest and remain unhappy, or you can chose to change things.
Sometimes you aren’t privileged enough to have the choice or to make it yourself. That’s also ok. It just takes a lot of preservation and my all-time favorite Jewish descriptive word chutzpah to get back on the horse.
So here’s to what next year will bring! If it can top this year, it’s sure to be a cracker.
